Dear friend,

The Board of Directors, staff, volunteers and students of The Literacy Council family wish you a very warm and laughter-filled Thanksgiving Holiday.  If you have loved ones who will be traveling over the holiday or anyone in the armed forces, may those individuals remain safe and protected.

Please get festive with us at our Holiday Auction and Dinner on December 2nd.

The agency will be closed on Thursday and Friday, November 26th & 27th?

May a good READ find its way into your lap,
Susan

Joy Decks Out Her Car
Take a Look!!

As the Tutor and Student Liaison for the Literacy Council, Joy Brown is out and about in the community weekly.  Joy motors between the two counties attending first time meetings between newly matched tutors and students.  Joy also provides presentations for community groups who want to learn more about our agency.  We had a brain storm of an idea.  Why not get more from the miles Joy travels in Clermont and Brown Counties?  Two magnetic signs now adorn the car doors of Joy's vehicle.  She claims she has been an instant hit.  "I cannot believe the people who turn their heads to see or read those signs."  It is our hope that this method of advertising will let more people know that there is help for those who are struggling with reading.  If you are traveling down the road and spot the "Joy Mobile" give her a honk and a wave!!!  Guess what Susan wants for Christmas?

Joy shows off the new signs

Tools for Tutors

"Reflect on the spirit of gratitude:  Ask your student to name 3 to 5 things for which they are grateful.  Have the student write or assist the student in writing each thought on separate index cards.  Tutor, you do the same.  When completed, mix up the cards - tutor and student take turns reading from the cards to one another."

Idea created by a Literacy Council Tutor.

New "teaching successes" are always welcome.  Write or email Susan with your great, tried and true ideas. susan.vilardo@clermontbrownliteracy.org, 513.943.3741.
